Zarahlena is a Mexican-German artist who explores identity through photography, performance, and yoga. Her art plays with a dualistic vision. Using art as a tool for self-recognition, she takes self-portraits, has performed body suspensions and modelled extensively.
The female body has been sexualized by the patriarchy throughout history. By Bordello we understand 'brothel', a place where female bodies are sold in order to engage in sexual activity–this is how males look at women. Bordello of Dreams is a photographic series seen from the female gaze. It is a project of female interaction, using analogue photography, self-made sets and the energy of the moon. This was created always at night over an extended period of time with women in front and behind the lens.
